ALOR STAR – Seat distribution for the 15th general election (GE15) among Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties will be finalised soon after the coalition’s seat negotiation committee has been established and held its meetings, said PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

“I am confident the matter can be settled with two or three discussions,” he said while delivering his opening speech at the 63rd Malaysian PAS Youth Council’s annual general assembly (muktamar) in conjunction with the party’s 68th muktamar here today.

Tuan Ibrahim, who is also Kubang Kerian MP, reiterated the party’s stance that there will be no political cooperation between PAS and Pakatan Harapan, and the PN leadership is aware of the matter.

However, PAS is open to negotiations with “non-extreme” parties outside PN to ensure that the opposition does not return to power.

“Studies have found that no political parties can rule Malaysia by themselves.  We acknowledge the fact that there is a need for the best coalition. PAS is open to any negotiation. We want to emphasise the need for such efforts,” he added.

Tuan Ibrahim stressed that if the negotiations with other parties fail, PAS is ready to face any eventuality, including clashing with Barisan Nasional.

He said PAS would not leave Bersatu, adding that they appreciate Bersatu’s sacrifices in making PAS one of the current government’s ruling parties.

In the meantime, Tuan Ibrahim said young candidates would form at least 30% of the PAS cohort for the upcoming GE15. – Bernama, September 1, 2022
