KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) is set to finalise its election manifesto and seat negotiations by the middle of next month, as it gears itself up for the impending 15th general election (GE15).

In a statement, the opposition coalition said these will be achieved ahead of its national convention, which will be held in a month’s time, although further details have yet to be revealed.

The matter was agreed by PH component parties’ top leaders, following a retreat held in Seremban today. The component parties are PKR, DAP, Amanah and Upko.

The meeting was held specifically to discuss the coalition’s strategies, dubbed the “Seremban Resolution”, towards gearing for the general election, which is widely believed to take place before the end of the year.

According to the statement, PH will also embark on a nationwide roadshow involving all top party leaders starting next month.

It added that several surveys found that multi-racial support for the coalition has increased in the last two months.

“Taking into account the spirit shown during the retreat, PH stresses that it is ready to enter and win GE15, which can be held anytime now.”

Meanwhile, the retreat resolved that any move to conduct a general election in the midst of a flood season will be deemed irresponsible.

“PH is extremely concerned with the Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy rain until the end of the year.

“We fully support the suggestion by the Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan governments to declare a climate emergency as a proactive measure in facing the anticipated flood.

“PH is of the view that all political parties, the federal and state governments should increase their preparation to assist the rakyat in facing the flood.”

Separately, PH expressed concern over the current economic uncertainty, its unsatisfactory management, and the spiraling prices of goods.

The retreat today was headed by opposition leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Upko president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.

Among the notable leaders present were PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, Amanah vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar, DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo and DAP assistant publicity secretary Hannah Yeoh. – The Vibes, September 15, 2022
