KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has hinted that the upcoming 15th general election (GE15) will be called “very soon”.
Reiterating that the date will be determined by him and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, he briefly assured that the polls are coming somewhere in the near future.
“Believe me, GE15 will be held soon and is not too far off,” he said during his speech at the Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth machinery launch today.
Sections of his speech were greeted by raucous cheers from a crowd numbering over 2,000, with many more gathered outside the stadium.
Meanwhile, Zahid once more urged for Parliament to be dissolved sometime this year, claiming that BN will suffer dire consequences if the matter is put off any longer.
“We cannot wait (anymore for GE15). If we do, the issues that we are facing will only become more pressing.
“We have no personal problems with the prime minister as long as GE15 is called for within this year,” he appeared to warn.
“Prime minister, the signal is loud and clear. Now is the time,” he said, at which the crowd began loudly chanting “Bubar! Bubar!” (dissolve Parliament).
Previously, Zahid’s calls for an election this year have been met with hesitation and opposition from various stakeholders as the event might coincide with the monsoon season, which begins in November.
However, Zahid ostensibly doubled down on his demand as he claimed today that BN leaders and members are more than ready to brave through possible floods to face an election.
“If the prime minister calls for an election during floods, we are willing to wade through floods to campaign to the people.
“In fact, there will be more of us on the ground than (those from) any other party,” he said. – The Vibes, September 17, 2022
