KUALA LUMPUR – Klang MP Charles Santiago has rubbished allegations that he was abandoning his parliamentary seat to make way for fellow DAP member and Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah.

Clearing the air in a brief Facebook post today, Santiago said that while he is currently occupied with flood mitigation measures, he has no plans to give up his seat anytime soon.

“For the record, I do not intend to vacate my seat just yet. I promise to read the article in full and respond once we have finalised our flood mitigation plans,” he assured.

Stressing that he is giving priority to flood preparations as such disasters will massively impact the lives of the people, he also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to those who had reached out to him following the claims made by an unnamed source.

“I would like to say a quick thank you to all of you for the phone calls and messages conveying support,” he said.

He added that his schedule includes “urgent meetings” on emergency response and aid distributions in case the monsoon season brings about another devastating flood, noting that he will be involved in a flood preparedness briefing next week.

Yesterday, The Star reported that Ean apparently intends to vie for the title of Klang MP while Santiago will be “sent to a state seat,” according to a source from DAP.

The source also said that 28 branches in Selangor are “throwing their support” behind Ean to compete for the seat, claiming that the deal has been “literally confirmed” as the names are already in the state list. – The Vibes, September 28, 2022
