KUALA LUMPUR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today attended a briefing on disaster and flood preparedness at the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre in Ampang here, ahead of his meeting with the prime minister this evening.

The closed-door briefing was held at the request of the king to find out relevant agencies’ preparedness to face the northeast monsoon season, which is expected to occur from mid-November to March 2023.

The Agong arrived at the centre at 10.25am and was welcomed by Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

Also in attendance were Environment and Water Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Zaini Ujang, Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Department director-general Datuk Md Nasir Md Noh, and Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah.

The briefing started with DID and MetMalaysia’s presentation on the current weather conditions and flood preparations while Khairy explained the latest Covid-19 situation and the Health Ministry’s preparedness to deal with the monsoon season.

After the briefing, the king is scheduled to visit the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre’s Control Centre here.

However, calls for snap polls have been rejected by some parties, including Perikatan Nasional (PN) ministers, who issued a letter to the palace.

Earlier, a high-ranking Bersatu lawmaker confirmed that all 12 PN cabinet members from their party and PAS have signed the letter. – The Vibes, October 6, 2022
