KUALA LUMPUR – Muda has welcomed the Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council’s decision yesterday to form an electoral pact with the fledgling party, after weeks of negotiation.
With the matter settled, Muda is now rallying members of the coalition to ensure victory in the 15th general election, which is expected to be held early next month.
“Let’s win this together,” party deputy president and election director Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said in a statement today.
Yesterday, PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had all but confirmed that the opposition coalition will enter into an electoral pact with Muda for the national polls, following a decision made in its presidential council meeting.
Anwar had said that several issues were being ironed out, including on seat negotiations and use of logo for the election period.
“At the moment, it is an electoral pact, because if (Muda) wants to join as an official member (of PH), it has to go through the Registrar of Societies (RoS). I don’t think the RoS will approve anything now,” he told reporters last night.
Muda first expressed its intention of joining PH as an official component member when its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman made the announcement during a press conference on September 6.
The two outfits had then already formed a political cooperation when they faced the Johor election in March.
However, Muda’s application to join PH was met with resistance, particularly from PKR, who was unhappy with the youth-based party’s decision to place a candidate against it in Johor.
According to Amira Aisya, since the day Muda announced its intention of joining PH, its goal has been clear – to offer the best option to Malaysians as they enter the polling booth.
“When discussions were held among Muda leaders, we agreed that the political coalition would share our values and celebrate all quarters regardless of race and religion.
“PH has a clear idea for Malaysia. Its leaders also promote politics of service and policies that have become the basis of Muda’s work.
“In fact, Muda and PH have been cooperating on many fronts. From voicing out for the rakyat on the streets to our good relationship in the Dewan Rakyat and state assemblies,” she said.
Amira Aisya also expressed her excitement at working together with Anwar, whom she described as someone who is diligent in his leadership by placing PH at the forefront for the rakyat and country. – The Vibes, October 13, 2022
