KUALA LUMPUR – Police have launched an investigation against former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas for an alleged racial remark he made against the government in a forum held last month.

In a brief statement today, Bukit Aman secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said police have also launched a similar investigation against Parti Sosialis Malaysia president Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj, who was also a panellist at the event.

Noorsiah also said both will be summoned soon to record their respective statements and that their case will be investigated under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

In the forum titled “Dark Forces Towards GE15” on September 17, Thomas allegedly urged the opposition to ask voters whether a “Malay government” would have made the country better and more efficient.

This was part of Thomas’ advice to the opposition in facing the upcoming general election, where he criticised the two administrations that came after the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government in early 2020.

According to the FMT, Dr Michael was summoned by Bukit Aman’s Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (D5) to give a statement on the matter last Thursday.

Other panellists at the forum included lawyer Siti Kasim, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, and Gerak Independent co-founder Mohamed Tawfik Ismail. – The Vibes, October 18, 2022
