SIBU – Former Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Datuk Larry Sng today confirmed he will be defending the Julau parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).
Through a statement in the Iban language on his Facebook page today, Sng said he wants to continue serving the people in Julau.
“I am definitely contesting. To defend my seat, to continue serving the people.
“I am now a resident and a registered voter in Julau,” Sng, a native of neighbouring parliamentary constituency Kapit, said.
His statement comes as the party awaits approval to join Barisan Nasional.
New PBM president Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin had previously said that the party would not contest in Sarawak, raising questions about Sng’s position in Julau.
Sng won the Julau parliamentary seat when he contested as an independent candidate in the 14th general election, defeating incumbent and former deputy communications and multimedia minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum with a majority of 1,931 votes.
He then joined PKR in 2018 and was appointed as state party chief in 2020 before resigning in February last year to become an independent MP, supporting then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Rumours are also rife that Salang, the president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak, will make another attempt for the Julau seat in GE15. – Bernama, October 20, 2022
