KUALA BERANG – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied speculations that he will not defend his Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat in the upcoming 15th general election GE15).

The Umno president also said he had not entertained such thoughts and did not know the source of such allegations nor the intentions of individuals spreading such rumours.

He told reporters at the launch of Terengganu BN GE15 machinery at the Malaysian Construction Academy in Jenagor near here today that it was important that BN prioritise winnable candidates to form the government.

He added that BN would finalise the final list of candidates for GE15 between three or five days before nominations on Nov 5.

Zahid also expressed his hope that leaders not chosen to contest would serve as mentors for new candidates, as fresh faces would make up to 70% of BN’s candidates.

During his speech at the launch, Zahid said although Terengganu BN aims to win at least four parliamentary seats, the central leadership wants a bigger win.

He added that it was not impossible as BN had taken over Terengganu before and formed the state government as well. – Bernama, October 21, 2022
