GEORGE TOWN – PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar will likely defend the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, party chief and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said last night.

“It’s very likely,” he said briefly to reporters after a Penang PKR fundraising dinner here last night.

There has been speculation that Nurul Izzah, the Permatang Pauh incumbent and Anwar’s daughter, would be fielded in Ampang to face party defector Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Zuraida was among the PKR leaders who jumped to Bersatu in 2020 in the Sheraton Move that toppled the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government elected in 2018. She has since left Bersatu for Parti Bangsa Malaysia and is now its president.

Anwar had also said previously that PKR would fight hard to take back seats now held by “traitors”, in reference to those who defected and had a role in causing PH’s collapse.

Anwar last night said these “traitors” need to be kicked out of politics as they had betrayed the people’s mandate in 2018 for a PH government.

“We know the head of the traitors is in Gombak and the tail is in Nibong Tebal. They should be kicked out. The voters should cleanse the system to save the country from corruptors, liars, traitors, and non-performers,” he said.

Gombak is the seat of former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali who defected to Bersatu and Nibong Tebal is the seat of Datuk Mansor Othman who also did likewise.

Anwar will contest in Tambun, Perak where the incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu is from Bersatu, which quit the PH coalition.

Anwar also said voters must “work with PH” to stop corruption in the country.

He added that he chose Tambun as he believed its voters are “intelligent” enough to make the right choice. – The Vibes, October 23, 2022
