PETALING JAYA – PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s self-confessed role in masterminding the Sheraton Move in 2020 to topple the elected Pakatan Harapan (PH) government is no surprise as he has a “sinister mind”, an Amanah leader said today.

Amanah communications director Khalid Abdul Samad said it showed how Hadi was desperate to propel the Islamist party to power by any means necessary.

By doing so, Hadi had gone against the teachings of PAS’ late spiritual leader, Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat, who was revered by politicians on both sides of the political divide for his strong moral character and respect of the people’s mandate, he said.

“I am not surprised if Hadi was one of the masterminds, because it takes a sinister mind (to execute it). Tok Guru (Nik Aziz) would have never agreed to the (Sheraton) Move,” said Khalid today after a Pakatan Harapan meeting.

He was responding to a news portal’s report earlier today, where Hadi claimed he had initiated the Sheraton Move after watching the PH government attempt to push for Malaysia’s ratification of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

Hadi said this move was PH’s attempt to eradicate the special position of the Malays.

Hadi also admitted to nominating Bersatu’s Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister to lead the new coalition government then.

Khalid, however, rebuked Hadi’s arguments and reminded the PAS leader that PH had done its part to strengthen the Malay-Muslim community as well.

“There were many moves and decisions that were made (by PH) which were good not only for the general public but also for the Malays and Muslims, which include upgrading the shariah court, salvaging of Tabung Haji and giving of oil royalties to Kelantan and Terengganu.” – The Vibes, October 23, 2022
