KUALA LUMPUR – The remains of former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s mother, Datin Mariah Khamis, was buried at the Ukay Perdana Muslim Cemetery here today.

Mariah was 88 years old and died of old age at her residence in Taman Ampang Utama, Ampang, at 2.45 am today.

Wan Azizah, in describing her late mother as her backbone, said she was responsible for her achievements.

“She was the one who encouraged me to implement the i-Suri incentive (when I was Deputy Prime Minister),” she told Bernama.

Earlier, Mariah’s body was brought to the Al-Mustaqim Mosque in Ampang for the funeral prayer.
