1MDB to serve US$3.8 bil summons to Jho Low’s sister via ad

KUALA LUMPUR – 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) has been allowed by the high court here to serve a writ of summons amounting to US$3.8 billion (RM18 trillion) to Low May Lin, the sister of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, via an advertisement in The Straits Times.

Representing 1MDB, lawyer Siva Kumar Kanagasabai said May Lin’s last known address is in Singapore and the previous two attempts to serve the summons failed despite sending her appointment letters.

Case management is set on October 28, reported Bernama.

The same writ of summons has also been successfully served on Taek Jho’s younger brother Low Taek Szen whose last known address is in Hong Kong

In September last year, the lawyer had said that 1MDB intends to file an application for a substituted service order to serve the writ of summons to Taek Jho, his family members, and Eric Tan Kim Loong.

Prior to that, on May 7, 2021, 1MDB and its four subsidiaries – 1MDB Energy Holdings Ltd, 1MDB Energy Ltd, 1MDB Energy (Langat) Ltd and Global Diversified Investment Company Ltd, formerly known as 1MDB Global Investments Ltd – filed a suit against Taek Jho, his parents – Tan Sri Larry Low Hock Peng and Puan Sri Goh Gaik Ewe, his sister, his younger brother, and associate Tan.

Based on the writ, 1MDB is claiming US$661 million from Taek Jho; US$41 million, US$397 million, US$608 million, and US$1.9 billion from him and Tan; and US$325 million from him and his father.

1MDB Global Investments Ltd is seeking US$630 million from Taek Jho, his father and Tan; and, US$2 million from him, Taek Szen, and Tan.

The plaintiffs are also seeking US$3.5 million from May Lin and Taek Jho; US$1.695 million from Taek Jho, Goh, and Tan in connection with the purchase of jewellery and secret profits; and US$25.5 million from Taek Jho, his father, Tan and Taek Szen. – The Vibes, October 25, 2022
