SINGAPORE – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has called on Malaysians residing in Singapore to fulfil their responsibilities by voting in the 15th general election (GE15) on November 19.

“I would like to remind you of your responsibility to vote in the upcoming GE.

“Although (you live) a little far away, you must still exercise your responsibilities as a voter,” said His Majesty.

Al-Sultan Abdullah said this during his speech at a dinner with the Malaysian diaspora at the Shangri-La Hotel here tonight.

Also gracing the event were the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and Their Majesties’ daughter Seri Paduka Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Afzan Aminah Hafizatullah.

The Election Commission has set November 19 as the polling date for GE15.

Applications for all overseas and domestic postal vote categories were opened on October 10, with postal vote applications for category 1B (Malaysian citizens living abroad) and category 1C (agencies/organisations) to be carried out online.

The closing date for applications is November 2 for category 1A (election officials, EC members/officers, police, military, and media personnel); October 23 for category 1B; and October 26 for category 1C.

Meanwhile, Al-Sultan Abdullah also expressed his appreciation to Malaysians living in Singapore who helped each other in various ways during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Also present at the dinner were Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin as the liaison officer, Transport Ministry secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak and Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore Datuk Azfar Mohamad Mustafar.

The king and queen are currently on a four-day state visit to Singapore that ends tomorrow.

The visit reflects the close and special bilateral relationship enjoyed between Malaysia and Singapore dating back 57 years. – Bernama, October 27, 2022
