KUALA LUMPUR – Incumbent Ampang MP Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin is set to defend her seat for the fourth term following Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s (PBM) announcement of its candidates today.

In addition to Zuraida, Datuk Seri Edmund Santhara Kumar and Datuk Larry Sng will also defend the Segamat and Julau parliamentary seats respectively.

The trio were among nine candidates announced by the fledgling party during the handover of nomination letters by Sng at the party’s election machinery centre in Ampang, this afternoon.

Other candidates include Lembah Jaya assemblywoman Haniza Talha contesting the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat; Sementa assemblywoman Dr Daroyah Alwi (Kapar), Dayang Rusimah Mohd Din (Labuan) and Alus Kassim (Sekijang).

Two new candidates were also announced by the party for state seats namely 25-year-old law graduate Bryan Yong Wu Sean for Tronoh and Nazmahwati Walli (Bugaya).

Bryan is the son of incumbent Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong Choo Kiong, who has taken a sabbatical following his conviction for rape at the Ipoh High Court earlier this year.

Paul, who was also former Perak executive councillor, was sentenced to 13 years’ jail and two strokes of the rotan in July for raping his former maid in 2019.

Meanwhile, Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi announced today that he will not defend the Lahad Datu parliamentary seat in the 15th general election.

Mohamaddin, who is also Segama assemblyman, said he wanted to focus on serving the people in the constituency.

“I will focus and continue my duties as Segama assemblyman by focusing on helping to improve the people’s living standards.

The people are stressed due to the increasing cost of living,” he said in a press conference, at Lahad Datu today.

Previously, Mohamaddin expressed his willingness to contest and defend the Lahad Datu parliamentary seat on PBM’s ticket.

In the 14th general election, Mohamaddin won the parliamentary seat on Warisan’s ticket with a majority of 6,401 votes against four other challengers. – The Vibes, November 4, 2022
