SHAH ALAM – The Klang district disaster management committee established an onsite control centre at Taman Sri Muda, Section 25 here to manage the possibility of floods in the area.
Datuk Abdul Latiff Ahmad said it will operate around the clock as preparation to reduce possible impacts of floods.
Latiff said the centre’s establishment was based on early warnings received from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and data obtained by related agencies, including the Drainage and Irrigation Department on identified flood hotspots.
“There are hotspots throughout the country, previous experience has taught us how to manage floods more proactively,” he told reporters after visiting the centre tonight.
He also said that 11 water pumps have been prepared, with eight of them placed in Taman Sri Muda and that they would be renting four more pumps as flood preparations.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations assistant-director Hafisham Mohd Noor said that the operating hours would depend on the current situation, adding that 15 personnel have been assigned along with five boats to the centre.
Aside from that, a multi-storey car park at Sri Muda Modern Market, Section 25, is now open to the public to deal with any possible flood.
Shah Alam district police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said it was due to water overflow in several places around the area this afternoon.
“Following that, Taman Sri Muda residents are advised to park their vehicles in high areas and monitoring is carried out from time to time. The situation is still under control,” he said.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said that so far no risk of flooding is expected to occur around Taman Sri Muda, Kota Kemuning and Sections 17 to Section 24 following the heavy rain that began around 3pm yesterday.
“Arriving at the scene of the incident around 4pm, firemen found that the area around Taman Sri Muda was still raining and the drains were full of water. However, no rescue work was carried out. – Bernama, November 9, 2022
