MUAR – The electoral roll for the 15th general election (GE15) can be purchased by any individual from the Election Commission (EC), said caretaker home minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
However, if the electoral roll was accompanied by the individual’s phone number, that electoral roll was not purchased from the EC.
“I wish to inform that voters can purchase the electoral roll from the EC…so why (is there a) need to buy from syndicates?
“The electoral roll can be bought from the EC, but if the names of voters are accompanied by their phone number, that is not bought from the EC.
“There have been no reports on that issue for now. I think so far the EC understands that anyone can buy the electoral roll from the EC,” he told reporters after a briefing session on preparations for floods and GE15 at Maktab Teknik Polis Diraja Malaysia, Bakri, here yesterday.
The media had reported that more than 800,000 data of users had been obtained from the MySPR and sold at RM9,401 at a popular data base.
Meanwhile, Hamzah, who is the incumbent Larut MP, said 130 police reports have been received for various offences involving the GE15 in Johor.
Hamzah also added that no police reports have been received over allegations that armed forces personnel who were involved in early voting for the GE15 were paid RM300 in Bera, Pahang. – Bernama, November 14, 2022
