TANGGA BATU – In yet another tit-for-tat, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has again accused rival DAP of harbouring communists.
He said Malaysians should not be influenced by DAP’s riposte of labelling the Islamist party as the Taliban as the Pakatan Harapan component poses more danger with its “communist agenda”.
“DAP doesn’t know what the Taliban is. The Talibans were just ‘pelajar pondok’ (Islamic independent school students) who fought and won against the US.
“PAS has governed Kelantan for a long time. We don’t close schools. We have even governed Terengganu, Kedah and many went on to study in universities.
“What we know of DAP is that the party has communists. You accused us of being Talibans, but you have communists in DAP.”
This comes after Perak PH and DAP chief Nga Kor Ming cautioned that Malaysia could become a Taliban-led Afghanistan if Perikatan Nasional wins.
Hadi went on to criticise Nga of being ignorant as PAS has a proven record of forming state governments in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.
PAS and DAP were once coalition partners under the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat in 2008. Then PAS was headed by Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz.
In recent years, PAS joined the Perikatan Nasional coalition, which has Bersatu as a linchpin.
Meanwhile, PAS is more willing to be in opposition than forming the federal government with rival Barisan Nasional (BN), if the coalition is led by corrupt individuals, said Hadi.
He added that PAS is part of Perikatan Nasional (PN), which is used to being in the opposition.
“We rather be in the opposition. PAS has been in the opposition for decades, no issue. We don’t want a dirty government as we have principles.
“We (PN) want to win a two-third majority so we don’t have to work with others. However, we welcome those who want to change via PN, which is offering a ‘clean’ and stable government.”
Hadi added that PAS is, however, ready to work with BN should the coalition be free of leaders who lack integrity.
He was at an event with Taman Desa Cheng Perdana residents here last night.
Before the dissolution of Parliament, PN was part of the federal administration led by BN’s Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. However, PN component parties PAS and Bersatu have been in opposition at some point. – The Vibes, November 16, 2022
