SHAH ALAM – Pakatan Harapan (PH) can sweep at least 120 parliamentary seats if just 10% of Malay voters support the coalition this Saturday, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said at a ceramah last night.
The PH candidate for the Kota Raja parliamentary seat said the recent declaration by a group of 70 Malay professors known as G70, endorsing PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister candidate, has to some extent influenced Malay voters.
“As of today, a total of 102 Muslim-Malay NGOs (non-governmental organisations) have announced their support for Anwar as prime minister, led by Cikgu Azmi,” Mohamad claimed at the Jelajah Harapan tour in Sri Muda, Selangor last night.
“If 10% of Malays change their votes from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) to PH, we will win over 120 (parliamentary seats),” Mohamad said, as reported by Getaran, The Vibes’ sister portal.
The Cikgu Azmi he referred to is Mohd Azmi Abd Hamid, the president of Teras Pengupayaan Melayu and the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations, which is a strong voice on the issue of Palestinian rights.
Mohamad said the people’s support for PH is becoming clearer, as seen from the reception of PH’s roadshows throughout the country since Parliament was dissolved on October 10.
He attributed confidence in PH to the anti-hopping law now in effect at the federal level, saying voters feel more assured there will be no more betrayals of their mandate after voting tomorrow.
“In the Melaka, Johor, and Sarawak elections, we lost due to low voter turnouts, as the people did not want to vote after the mandate they gave in GE14 was betrayed.
“But now many are confident in voting, now that anti-hopping laws are in effect.
“Many are starting to look interested in going out to vote this Saturday. Just look at Jelajah Harapan in Gombak (on Wednesday night), where tens of thousands attended,” Mohamad claimed.
He also said “thousands” of Malaysians in Singapore are returning to vote, “and we are confident they will vote for PH”.
The former defence minister urged all Malaysians to return to their voting areas to cast their ballots and ensure Anwar becomes prime minister.
Mohamad will face an eight-cornered clash to defend Kota Raja, where he is the incumbent.
In GE14, Mohamad won in Kota Raja by a whopping majority of 71,142 votes. – The Vibes, November 18, 2022
