KUALA LUMPUR – With less than a day before polling, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has asserted that Malay support for Barisan Nasional (BN) and linchpin Umno is at an all-time low.
Rafizi claimed that according to a survey conducted by his data analytics company Invoke Solutions Sdn Bhd, BN and Umno only managed to garner the support of 26.7% voters interviewed through phone calls.
The figure is a noticeable decline from the 33.6% backing it received during the 2018 general election.
This, Rafizi said, is testament to the dire condition of the coalition and party, which might suffer another defeat at Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) hands if the lack of support remains as such.
“If this support pattern does not change by voting day tomorrow and the voter turnout is over 75%, PH is expected to secure more than 100 parliamentary seats nationwide,” he said in a statement today.
Additionally, he said while Malay support for PH and Perikatan Nasional (PN) was found to be similar at around 22% to 23%, support from the community for PH is higher now than during the previous national polls.
“The number of Malay voters who are still on the fence has increased by 4% to 24% within a week. This shows that more Malay voters have changed their minds from voting for BN to ‘undecided’, which hints at Malay votes coming over to PH.”
Besides that, he said the overall support recorded for PH among the 1,226 respondents from various backgrounds and ages across the nation far outshines the backing for BN and PN.
“The most evident spike in support was from voters aged 55 and above, where PH managed to receive 36% of support, while BN got 31% and PN 11%.
“Support from voters aged between 25 to 54 years old also showed an uphill trend, with PH securing 30% of support, followed by BN (22%) and PN (18%).”
The survey was conducted from November 16 to 17 and has a 2.8% margin of error, according to Rafizi, who is also PH’s candidate for the Pandan parliamentary seat.
Malaysians will head to the polls tomorrow, with polling stations set to close at 6pm. – The Vibes, November 18, 2022
