KUALA LUMPUR – In a Friday sermon delivered at mosques across Perak today, congregations were urged to exercise their voting rights and select leaders who were credible and capable of leading the nation well.
The script, prepared by the Perak Islamic Religious Department, said the 15th general election would see 21.1 million voters determining the fate of 32.7 million Malaysians.
“39 political parties with 945 candidates are involved in the election, while another 108 candidates are contesting as independents.
“Islam places great emphasis on leadership and a nation’s future, good or bad, is determined by our leadership.
“This is why it is every voter’s obligation to pick a good candidate,” read the sermon script.
It said the Election Commission has prepared voting ballots for all voters, printed using money collected from taxpayers.
“Do not waste these ballot papers prepared for us. The government has even declared today and tomorrow as holidays to make it easy for voters to exercise their right.
“Please ensure you fulfil your constitutional right and come forward to vote,” it said.
The sermon stressed that voters must be aware that it is their duty to vote in good leaders to administer the nation.
When appointing a manager, the sermon said voters must be meticulous and ensure that person has what it takes to be a good administrator and is also respected.
“Who among the candidates has a clean image and is free from corruption? Who among them has his own strengths and is not a puppet who is weak and one who would easily bow to pressure?” questioned the sermon.The sermon reiterated these issues must be used as a guide when making the decision. – The Vibes, November 18, 2022
