KUALA LUMPUR – A 44-year-old Caucasian woman from Russia, now a Malaysian citizen, was excited to cast her vote for the first time in the 15th general election today.

Pavlenko Alla, who has been living in Malaysia for the past 20 years, was cheerful when conducting her duty as a citizen when she voted at SMK Taman Maluri.

The private sector employee said she wants to take part in the democratic process for a better Malaysia.

“I want to vote for a better Malaysia but in fact, Malaysia is already in a good condition,” she said to The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal Getaran after voting in the Titiwangsa parliamentary constituency.

The seat is seeing a four-cornered battle with former deputy finance minister II Datuk Seri Johari Ghani from Barisan Nasional taking on former federal territories minister Khalid Abdul Samad of Pakatan Harapan as well as Pejuang’s Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Perikatan Nasional’s Rosni Adam.

The seat’s incumbent, former women, family and community development minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun, who won with a 4,139 majority and a total of 23,840 votes in 2018, is not defending her seat.

She had defeated then incumbent Johari, who managed to obtain 19,701 votes, and PAS candidate Mohamad Noor Mohamad, who won 6,845 votes. – The Vibes, November 19, 2022
