PERMATANG PAUH – Nurul Izzah Anwar has lost her family’s stronghold of Permatang Pauh to Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The shocking result saw Nurul Izzah polling 11,005 votes to PN’s Muhamad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan, who garnered 17,056 votes.

Permatang Pauh was seen as a fixed deposit for Nurul Izzah, whose mother Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and father Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim have held the seat since 2008.

Barisan Nasional’s Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said took 7,352 votes, while Pejuang’s Mohd Nasir Othman received just 148 votes.

Both of Nurul Izzah’s parents, however, won their respective seats: Anwar in Tambun, and Wan Azizah in Bandar Tun Razak.

While many heavyweights fell in this election, Nurul Izzah was an unexpected casualty due to her popularity and appeal to younger voters. – The Vibes, November 20, 2022
