2 foreign workers seriously hurt in wall collapse

BATU KAWAN – Two Bangladeshi workers were seriously injured after a concrete wall fell on them while they were carrying out renovations at a private college in Bandar Cassia here today.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Azmi Tahar said one of the victims, identified as Moshak, 42, sustained injuries to the face and had his right hand crushed, while 40-year-old Mannan Abdul seriously injured his legs and abdomen.

“We were alerted to the incident about 5pm. Upon arrival at the site, we found the two men trapped under the rubble.

“We had to remove the concrete heap before the victims could be brought to safety,” he told Bernama here.

He said the duo were rushed to Seberang Jaya Hospital.

Preliminary investigations showed that the two workers were in the midst of demolishing the wall when it collapsed on them.

“Earlier, several other workers tried to extricate them, but the concrete slabs were too heavy,” said Azmi. – Bernama, November 29, 2020
