KUALA LUMPUR – It is believed that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will advise Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to form a unity government.

This comes after the Agong had an audience with Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun on who has the majority support to form the government.

PH has 82 and PN has 73 seats in Dewan Rakyat, with no side being able to form a simple majority.

A statement from Istana Negara today said that the king had summoned the leaders of both coalitions at 4.30pm today.

Anwar and Muhyiddin are being summoned after the king found that no MP has simple majority support from other MPs to be the 10th prime minister, a statement from the palace said.

"Istana Negara has received information from the heads of coalitions on their positions and prime minister candidate.

"Given that no MP has support from the simple majority of Dewan Rakyat members, His Majesty has decreed an audience with the heads of PH and PN at 4.30pm at Istana Negara," said Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.

The king again urged citizens to remain calm while allowing the process of forming a new government and appointing a prime minister to be completed.

By virtue of the number of seats held by PH, Anwar is expected to form a government as prime minister.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak had already left it to the wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and will to work with whoever that can form the federal government. – The Vibes, November 22, 2022
