KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has rejected the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s proposal for a unity government between the coalition and Pakatan Harapan (PH).
This was revealed by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin himself, who said His Majesty made the proposal during their audience, which was also attended by PH chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Tuanku suggested that we cooperate with PH to form a unity government, but we have discussed since the beginning, we will not work with PH,” Muhyiddin said in a press conference tonight.
“That has been our stand since the beginning. Under any reasoning, we will disagree.
“I was asked to sign a document in agreement, but we have unanimously agreed under known reasons why we cannot be with PH,” he added.
The suggestion by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was reportedly because of insufficient signed documents showing support by MPs from either Muhyiddin or Anwar.
However, Muhyiddin claimed that PN has obtained more than the necessary number of documents requested by Istana Negara.
“We have submitted the documents needed by Istana Negara to prove that PN has the support of 115 parties and MPs, with our SDs of support,” he said.
“This is a letter from Datuk Nazim Mohd Alim, senior private secretary to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which confirms the five documents as proof that we have more than enough support needed to form a government.
“But it was said that these documents are insufficient. I don’t know the reasoning behind it,” he added.
Present at the press conference were Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, and Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Earlier today, both Muhyiddin and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were summoned by Istana Negara, as neither coalition chiefs managed to obtain a majority of 112 seats to be announced as prime minister. – The Vibes, November 22, 2022
