KUALA LUMPUR – Former Langkawi MP Datuk Nawawi Ahmad, 61, died early this morning in Frankfurt, Germany.

It is learnt that the Langkawi Umno division chief died at around 3am this morning.

The matter was confirmed by Langkawi Umno deputy chief Nor Saidi Nanyan, who told Berita Harian that Nawawi had been in Germany for business reasons.

“I was told that (Nawawi) was in Frankfurt on a business trip within his capacity as a Tenaga Nasional Bhd board member.

“He was accompanied by his wife, Datin Sabariah Hassan. I believe that his body will be laid to rest in Frankfurt,” Nor Saidi was quoted as saying.

Nawawi had previously served as a Langkawi MP for one term from 2013 to 2018 before he was beaten by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the 14th general election.

Besides that, Nawawi had also served as Kuah assemblyman in Kedah for two terms from 2004 to 2013. – The Vibes, November 28, 2022
