KUALA LUMPUR – Amanah is set to give way to Barisan Nasional by withdrawing its candidate from the upcoming Tioman state by-election.
In a statement today, the Pakatan Harapan component party’s secretary-general Datuk Mohd Hatta Md Ramli said the move was made in the spirit of the newly formed state government in Pahang, an alliance between the PH and BN coalitions.
“Amanah sees the race for the Tioman state seat as a clash between the new Pahang government with religious and racial extremists that need to be addressed seriously.
“In that spirit, Amanah saw the need to create a strong bond between state government components in challenging Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“Therefore, as part of the state government component, Amanah will give way to the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Tioman state election as a sign of mutual cooperation of the unity administration at both the state and the national level,” said Hatta in a statement today.
Hatta also stated that Amanah’s election machinery will help with BN’s campaign effort in Tioman.
It is understood that Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail will be on the ground in Tioman for a joint ceramah tomorrow.
In the statement, Hatta also congratulated Wan Rosdy for helming the state of Pahang as the menteri besar for a second term.
During the election, BN had won 16 seats, PN won 17, while PH won eight seats in Pahang.
To form a government, any party must secure 22 out of 42 state seats.
Voting for the 15th general election for the Tioman state seat was postponed to December 7 following the death of PN candidate Md Yunus Ramli, 61, on polling day, on November 19. – The Vibes, November 29, 2022
