KUALA LUMPUR – Flash floods have struck several residential areas and highways in several locations in the Klang Valley, following the downpour this afternoon.

Affected areas include Eco Majestic in Semenyih and the Sultan Iskandar Highway.

Other affected roads are Jalan Syed Putra, Jalan Maharajalela, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Raja, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Maarof, Jalan Travers, and Jalan Kuching.

In Kajang, the Silk Highway and residential areas near Sg Ramal have been reported to be inundated by muddy water.

A Twitter post by user Sahrifah Sabari showed Sg Ramal overflowing into residential areas, and a pedestrian forced to wade across the muddy waters.

“Sg Ramal is flooded, how will I travel?” she asked in her post.

According to police, both lanes on Jalan Parlimen were closed at 4.36pm, after flood waters almost reached knee-height.

Floodwaters were reported to have only subsided at 5.02pm, as vehicles continued to travel on the road again.

Two of Jalan Travers’ three lanes were also reportedly accessible, as the road connecting Bangsar to Brickfields was inundated with muddied water as well.

Nonetheless, at 4.20pm, the water level in Jalan Maharajalela only reached ankle-height causing no further disruptions to motorists as floodwaters reportedly subsided by 5.09pm.

Both east coast states are set for a spell of floods following a warning issued by the Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) for the next few days.

In a statement today, DID said areas near Sg Setiu are expected to experience floods by Thursday evening, including Kg Che Mohid, Kg Permaisuri, Kg Nyatoh, and SK Kg Besut.

Meanwhile, communities surrounding Sg Dungun, Sg Kemaman, Sg Paka, Sg Besut, and Sg Golok are expected to face floods at different times on December 2. – The Vibes, November 30, 2022
