KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is seeking assistance from the public to help in its investigation into the alleged misappropriation of public funds amounting to RM600 billion.
In a statement today, the anti-graft body urged those with relevant evidence and documents to come forward and furnish this information at any of its offices.
“If needed, MACC will send an officer to collect the information or document,” it said.
The commission also reiterated that an investigation paper relating to the allegations by several quarters has been opened.
“MACC will conduct a detailed, transparent, and professional probe from all angles.”
On Tuesday, Bernama quoted MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki as confirming that an investigation has been initiated pertaining to the funds allegedly misappropriated by the previous government.
Yesterday, The Vibes had reported that International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz is one of three prominent politicians expected to be called up by MACC to assist in the probe.
He had served as finance minister under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s cabinets.
The other two who will supposedly be summoned by MACC are former prime minister and Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
The probe relates to the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion by the Muhyiddin government, particularly when the country was facing the Covid-19 pandemic.
Today, Tengku Zafrul said he is open to being investigated by the authorities but believes there is no arising issue.
He added that he had nothing to hide and will offer his full cooperation should he be called in for questioning. – The Vibes, December 8, 2022
