I was ‘removed’ as I tried to save my 'burning home': Annuar Musa

KUALA LUMPUR – Amid reports of his sacking from Umno, party veteran Tan Sri Annuar Musa has posted on Facebook what appears to be a metaphor for his removal.

The former Ketereh MP has not been taking calls to his number since news early this morning of his sacking, but took time to write down a dream he claimed to have had last night, of the house he inherited and lived in being on fire.

He wrote that his attempts to help put the fire out were halted when he was pulled out of the scene.

Annuar, who has served in Umno for decades, said while many other residents of the burning property fled to save themselves, he attempted to put out the fire because he loved the house and wanted to ensure the remaining occupants would be safe.

In the veiled post, he also put the word “house” inside quote marks, possibly alluding to Umno.

“While the fire was raging and scores of the residents continued to leave the house, I was suddenly pulled out from the fire.

“Now, I can only watch the fire from afar,” he said.

“Although I really love the house, I can only pray: ‘Dear Allah, to you I surrender, and to you I seek help. Please save the burning house’.”

Last night, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi revealed that three party division leaders have been sacked for berating the Barisan Nasional (BN) linchpin, as part of the political outfit’s attempt to crack down on errant members.

He said two are Wanita Umno division chiefs while the other is an Umno division leader, adding that their names will only be disclosed in an official statement soon.

Later, several media platforms quoted sources as saying that Annuar, who has served in multiple ministerial portfolios, was one of the three who received the boot from Umno, purportedly for tarnishing the party’s image.

The other two are reportedly Arau Wanita Umno division chief Datuk Seri Shamsiah Yasin and her Maran counterpart Datin Seri Fatimah Kassim. This is after the duo supported the candidates of an opposing party in the 15th general election.

Annuar, a proponent of a BN-Perikatan Nasional cooperation, has been a vocal critic of the Umno leadership in the past couple of years over its decision not to work with the Bersatu-led coalition.

He had also openly criticised the party’s top echelons on several occasions, resulting in his removal as BN secretary-general in January last year.

Later, he was dropped from contesting in the 15th general election, the first time he has not competed in polls since making his electoral debut in 1986.

After BN’s decision to form a unity government led by Pakatan Harapan, Annuar had conducted a press conference in which he went on the assault on party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Among other things, Annuar had said that BN's poor performance in the election is proof that the rakyat have rejected Zahid, and urged the latter to resign from his presidency.

The Vibes has contacted Annuar for comments on this latest development but has yet to receive a response. – The Vibes, December 9, 2022
