KUALA LUMPUR – Search and rescue (SAR) operations should be carried out systematically by all relevant government agencies, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following the deadly landslide in Batang Kali in the wee hours today.

He also advised ministers heading to the incident site to not get in the way of the SAR personnel there.

The prime minister himself will be heading to Batang Kali tonight.

So far, he said he has been getting updates from Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming and Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

As of 10.15am, eight people were found dead and 60 were rescued after an early morning landslide took place at a campsite in Batang Kali.

Around 7am, Selangor Fire and Rescue director Datuk Norazam Khamis said 37 people were rescued while three were found with injuries.

The search and rescue operations for missing people are ongoing with more than 200 personnel on-site. – The Vibes, December 16, 2022
