KUALA LUMPUR – Putrajaya residents with houses worth less than RM300,000 each will receive a 30% reduction in their assessment tax starting next year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
In a statement, he said the tax reduction is applicable for homes that have been completed since 2017 and will affect some 8,500 units.
“This reduction is in line with the unity government’s efforts to alleviate the people’s burden, especially those from the B40 and M40 groups who own affordable homes in Putrajaya,” he said.
The reduction comes after Anwar had received feedback that the assessment tax rate for homeowners in Putrajaya is much higher compared to its neighboring areas.
Earlier today, Anwar along with Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali as well as other Kuala Lumpur MPs had attended a briefing at Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
Following the meeting, Zuki had announced a significant restructuring whereby the Federal Territories Ministry was converted into a department under the purview of the Prime Minister’s Department.
In a Facebook post today, Zuki said that the newly coined Federal Territories Department is spearheaded by Datuk Seri Rosida Jaafar.
The Federal Territories in Malaysia consist of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan.
Anwar’s cabinet line-up lacked a Federal Territories minister when it was first announced on December 2.
The Prime Minister’s Office had then said that the relevant minister would be announced later.
The ministry, established in 1979, was last led by Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim as its minister prior to Parliament’s dissolution on October 10 leading to the 15th general election. – The Vibes, December 22, 2022
