KUALA LUMPUR – The Inland Revenue Board’s (IRB) suit against former Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor to recover RM57.17 million in income tax arrears was today settled amicably at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

“Both parties have amicably resolved the matter. It’s a settlement,” lawyer S. Saravana Kumar, representing Tengku Adnan, told reporters after the proceedings, which were held in chambers before judge Datuk Azimah Omar.

The court subsequently recorded the consent judgment.

Saravana declined to disclose the terms of the settlement, including the amount to be paid by the Putrajaya MP to IRB.

Today’s proceedings were also attended by senior revenue counsel Norhisham Ahmad and Al-Hummidallah Idrus, and deputy solicitor Hazlina Hussain, appearing for IRB.

On September 2, the parties in the case told Azimah that they were in the process of settling the suit, and the judge gave them till today to reach an agreement.

The government, via IRB, filed the suit against Tengku Adnan on July 24 last year over unapid taxes for the assessment years 2012 to 2017.

IRB, in its suit, said the lawmaker failed to pay taxes with a 10% penalty, for a total of RM57,167,069.35. – Bernama, September 23, 2020
