PETALING JAYA – A married couple was today charged at the Ampang magistrates’ court with the murder of a waiter in Pandan Indah, Ampang on December 29.

Khor Swee Boon, 33, and Ng Hui Yee, 30, nodded and said they understood the charges read to them by an interpreter before magistrate Normaizan Rahim.

However, no plea was recorded as the case will be heard by the high court on March 23.

The couple was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

They were alleged to have murdered 29-year-old Cho Lim Fong at the Jing Hoe Mei restaurant, on Jalan Pandan Indah, at 8.55pm on December 29 last year.

It was reported that a male waiter died of severe injuries after a parcel left on his car bonnet exploded.

R.S.N. Rayer, who represented the couple, asked the court to allow Ng to be granted bail as she had to care for their two children, aged 5 and 7.

Both children are now placed under Ng’s parents' care.

However, the court rejected the plea.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Ameera Sam Kamaruddin had earlier objected, saying there were no grounds for this since murder was a non-bailable offence.

According to police, a man died after he touched a package that exploded on the night of December 29.

The package was placed on his car, which was parked in front of a restaurant in Pandan Indah, Ampang Jaya here.

The accused were nabbed by police on January 3 this year in Serdang, Kedah. – The Vibes, January 16, 2023
