KUALA LUMPUR – Lawyer Siti Kasim was the target of attempted murder, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said.
He told Harian Metro that the placement of a homemade bomb under the human rights activist’s car constituted such an attempt.
He said police are still investigating the case and are tracing the suspect through fingerprints and other evidence.
“Placing the bomb is a serious crime and amounts to attempted murder,” Harian Metro quoted him as saying.
He reiterated his call to the public not to speculate on the case so as not to distract the ongoing investigation.
On Saturday, Brickfields district police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor confirmed that two plastic bottles containing explosives found under Siti Kasim’s car are suspected to be an improvised explosive device.
Siti Kasim had brought her Toyota Celica to a mechanic in Bangsar who later called her upon discovering the bomb-like object.
She said while she had received threats before, she had never had such a direct attempt to harm her. – The Vibes, July 24, 2023
