BANGKOK – The government is still waiting for the findings and recommendations of the Health Ministry before making any decision regarding the research of medical marijuana as proposed by previous health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told a press conference today at the end of his official visit to Thailand that Putrajaya must also look into other issues regarding the research of the controversial plant.
“Right now, it’s not taken seriously, we will wait for the findings and the recommendations of the Health Ministry. Also, security, because there are issues affecting security,” said the Tambun MP.
In August last year, Khairy had visited Thailand on a fact-finding trip to assess the potential use of cannabis and ketum for medical purposes and the legal framework for such use.
The working visit back then was at the invitation of Thailand’s deputy prime minister and public health minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
