KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the plans for the building of an airport in Kulim are not up for consideration.
The prime minister stated that the government will instead be focusing on the plans to increase the capacity and quality of the Penang International Airport and the Subang International Airport.
He added that the proposed expansion will be led by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
These projects are expected to benefit the economy at a much lower cost, compared to the plans to open an airport in Kulim, which is an estimated RM7 billion.
He said the expansion of these two airports will help to support and encourage the entry of investors, traders, and tourists.
Previously, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor announced that the Kulim Airport project was estimated to end by 2026, and offer 15,000 to 18,000 job opportunities for locals. – The Vibes, February 24, 2023
