JOHOR BARU – Letters of demand were issued against Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and its coalition information chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali for their alleged defamatory statements against Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

It is understood that the demand letter was in relation to Muhyiddin’s statement, which accused Zahid of planning criminal proceedings against Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

In a statement by BN’s communication department, it was pointed out that Azmin had also supported Muhyiddin’s statement by saying that prosecution against PN members were all planned.

“It is clear from their actions that these two key individuals from PN would create excuses to hide the problem of corruption from within their ranks.

“Their accusations appear to be a normal step to cover up their weaknesses and turn themselves into victims of political prosecution,” the statement read.

Letters of demand were sent to both Muhyiddin and Azmin, requiring both individuals to retract their statements, make an open apology and pay damages.

BN reiterated that their leader, Zahid, has never misused his powers and position to initiate investigations against PN’s leaders and is focused on his ministerial duties.

“This defamation can’t go on any longer and such actions can’t be used to lie in an attempt to absolve themselves from their crimes,” the statement added. – The Vibes, February 27, 2023
