KUALA LUMPUR – Businessman Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad has claimed trial a third time, this time for allegedly soliciting RM2 million in relation to an infrastructure project under Jana Wibawa.
Adam pleaded not guilty when the charge was read in front of sessions court judge Azura Alwi here today.
He was alleged to have solicited the monies from Lian Tian Chuan in a restaurant in Publika sometime in January 2022 to aid Nepturis Sdn Bhd in securing a construction project involving a government building in Klang worth RM141 million.
He was charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act, which is punishable under Section 24(1) of the same act. If found guilty, he faces up to 20 years in jail and a minimum fine of RM10,000 per charge.
Deputy public prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh then suggested for Adam’s bail and other additional conditions to be tied to his other charges at the Shah Alam sessions court.
The additional conditions include Adam being required to report to the MACC office once every month and to surrender his passport.
Judge Azura agreed with the suggestion and allowed for a RM300,000 bail as well as the other additional conditions.
Adam is represented by lawyer Datuk Seri Rajan Navaratnam.
Previously, Adam, who is also Segambut Bersatu deputy division chief, claimed trial to two counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM4.1 million linked to the Jana Wibawa initiative, at the Shah Alam sessions court.
Adam, as Syarikat Bayu Bumiraya Sdn Bhd director, has been accused of accepting RM2 million in bribes via the company’s CIMB Bank Bhd account from one Lian Tan Chuan.
In another offence, Adam is accused of receiving a bribe of RM2.1 million via the same account from MIE Infrastructure & Energy Sdn Bhd managing director Mat Jusoh Mamat for his role in obtaining the development project valued at RM47.8 million to build Jalan Sg Adam to Kg Banat in Perlis.
On February 21, Adam also claimed trial to two charges of soliciting and bribery at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court.
The businessman had allegedly solicited from Mat Jusoh Mamat between 3.5% and 7% of the project value of a road project worth RM47.8 million.
The Segambut Bersatu deputy chief had also allegedly received RM500,000 as an inducement to help the private firm to secure the aforementioned project. – The Vibes, February 28, 2023
