KUALA LUMPUR – The number of flood evacuees in Johor rose again to 40,008 people as of 8pm last night compared to 39,315 people yesterday evening after Batu Pahat registered an increase.

Meanwhile, things are getting better for Pahang as evacuees dropped to 2,268 people compared to 2,538 yesterday evening.

In Johor, 11,383 families are being housed in 200 relief centres in eight districts after floods receded in Johor Baru. 

Batu Pahat is the worst affected district with 27,289 people at 89 centres, followed by Muar with 4,079 people (21 centres) and Tangkak with 2,491 people (22 centres). 

The water levels of 11 rivers still exceed the danger level, including Sg Batu Pahat at Bekok dam (Batu Pahat) at 20.19m, Sg Muar in Bukit Kepong (Muar) at 5.46m and Sg Muar in Lubok Kepong (Segamat) at 18.63m.

In Pahang, 2,255 people from 653 families remain at 15 centres in Rompin, with another 13 from two families in a centre in Maran.

In Melaka, the situation remained unchanged with 606 people from 162 families in five centres in Jasin as of 8pm. From the total, 211 people from 56 families are at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Batu Gajah, 146 people from 35 families are at SK Parit Penghulu, 88 people (22 families) at SK Seri Mendapat, 99  people (25 families) at SK Sg Rambai and 62 people (24 families) at SK Parit Gantong. – Bernama, March 8, 2023
