IPOH – Perak Umno has requested all parties to stop speculating and issuing statements without the party’s official decision on the state’s menteri besar crisis.

State Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad said in a statement today that any official update on the matter will be issued through his office.

“Perak Umno liaison committee finds the speculation and rumours following a few statements that was issued outside of the party’s official channel on the state’s political scenario to be a serious matter.

“Therefore, all parties have been asked to remain calm and to stop making speculations following the statements that were issued without the party’s official approval.

“Following that, any official party statements on the developing process to form the state government will be issued only through the Perak Umno liaison chairman’s office,” he said.

Earlier, Rungkup assemblyman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya had posted on Facebook and Instagram denying rumours and speculation that he was shortlisted as one of Umno’s menteri besar candidates.

Shahrul said all the Barisan Nasional state-level lawmakers were backing Kota Tampan rep Saarani for the state’s highest political office.

Former menteri besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir was rumoured to be in the race for the position but sources close to him said he had chosen to make way for Saarani. – The Vibes, December 7, 2020
