Don’t let probe into sex clip featuring Azmin lookalike slide: Rayer

KUALA LUMPUR – While debating an amendment to the Evidence of Child Witness Act 2007, R.S.N. Rayer (Jelutong-PH) took the Dewan Rakyat by surprise when he touched on former Gombak MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s alleged sex clip.

This is in reference to a viral video clip in 2019 featuring a man bearing striking resemblance to Azmin involved in sexual acts with former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Aziz.

Rayer took the opportunity to bring up the matter when he pressed the government not to disregard past cases.

Citing news reports from June 2019, Rayer noted that Haziq, who was then a senior private secretary to the deputy primary industries and commodities minister, had confessed to being one of the men in the clip and named Azmin as the second individual.

“We are debating on the rights of people who are victims of sexual crimes. What about Haziq's rights? (He) has accused Azmin of having sex (with him) in a hotel,” he said in Parliament today.

“Will this matter be investigated? I seek an explanation. Will these people be charged?

“Sexual acts that happen in the past must not be forgotten. I ask for an explanation from the minister pertaining to this.”

However, Law and Institutional Reform Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, when winding up the debates on the amendment bill today, did not respond to Rayer’s questions.

In June 2019, following the dissemination of the video clip, Azmin vehemently denied allegations that he was one of the persons involved, describing it as a sinister plot to tarnish his political career.

Later in 2020, former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said investigations into the video could not proceed due to technical factors.

In January of that same year, the Attorney-General’s Chambers decided that it was not going to pursue prosecutions given the failure to determine the identity of the individuals in the video.

On March 17, a group of six NGOs urged enforcement authorities to reinitiate investigations over the intimate video, saying they are motivated to uncover the truth and individual behind the clip.

He said they also aim to make sure the perpetrators involved are detained and brought to justice. – The Vibes, March 29, 2023
