FORMER Bersatu leader Wan Saiful Wan Jan described Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as a liability to Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The Tasek Gelugor MP also revealed Muhyiddin's alleged true intention to become Prime Minister again, which he claimed raised numerous questions.

"Some people have started asking, does he (Muhyiddin) want to become prime minister (again) to close his case in court?

"Does he want to become a prime ministerial candidate because of the people or to ensure that his son-in-law can return to Malaysia?

"This issue, politically speaking, hurts PN's message as a clean and stable party," he said.

He said this in The Zaid Ibrahim Podcast programme which was broadcast yesterday as reported by Berita Harian.

Wan Saiful also stressed that the sworn declaration (SD) involving 120 party division heads was not intended to urge Muhyiddin to step down as Bersatu President.

He said the document was to urge that the motion to name Muhyiddin as the Prime Ministerial candidate not be brought up in the Annual General Meeting.

He also described the claim that the SD was intended to urge Muhyiddin to resign as a narrative from "Datuk Seri Azmin Ali's camp."

"About two weeks before the general meeting, there were rumors that a motion was to be brought to name Muhyiddin as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

"We knew from the beginning that PAS did not agree and we did not want the relationship with the party to become strained. The SD was actually not about changing the president, but was taken advantage of by the camp associated with Azmin to state that it was an effort to bring down Muhyiddin. Unfortunately, he also believed it," he said.

Wan Saiful added that when various questions were raised regarding Muhyiddin's intention to be nominated as the prime ministerial candidate, what he should have done was to relinquish the position to Deputy President, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

However, Wan Saiful said Hamzah was also summoned by the disciplinary board due to the Bersatu Deputy President's failure to control him (Wan Saiful).

On October 14, Bersatu took action against Wan Saiful and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal for violating the party's constitution and code of conduct.

The party's disciplinary board also dismissed four division heads, namely Azrudin Idris (Hang Tuah Jaya), Faizal Asmar (Pengerang), Fadhli Ismail (Ipoh Timur) and Isa Saidi (Ampang). – November 1, 2025
