Important for public to feel their voice not ignored, says Lembah Pantai MP

KUALA LUMPUR – Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he hopes that the delayed gazetting of the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (KLSP 2040) will provide space for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to listen and respond to public views.

The Lembah Pantai MP said the move was important to ensure that the federal capital’s policy planning considers the voices of various parties, including the city’s residents’ associations.

“This is important to ensure sustainable development and that no community feels that their voice is ignored… I think previously the people of Kuala Lumpur felt that they were not involved in the discussion process for Kuala Lumpur’s development.

“I also think it is fair for DBKL to respond to residents’ associations and non-governmental organisations (regarding the proposal) who told me they had provided their views but received no feedback,” he said after taking part in the making of bubur lambuk organised by Yayasan TM at the Kg Kerinchi Public Housing Project (PPR) here today.

Fahmi said he would examine the plan, in his capacity as an MP in Kuala Lumpur, to ensure that it is developed taking into account the humane element in line with Madani principles introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Fahmi said the engagement process involving all Kuala Lumpur MPs was underway, adding that one of the items on his wish list is to keep some residential areas from being turned into commercial zones.

Yesterday Anwar announced the postponement of the gazetting of KLSP 2040 until May 31 to allow DBKL to hold further engagement sessions with stakeholders.

In another development, Fahmi said he would discuss with DBKL and the Local Government Development Ministry to help resolve the “chronic” issue of faulty lifts in private housing areas not under city hall jurisdiction, such as low-cost flats. – Bernama, April 9, 2023
