KUALA LUMPUR – Top Barisan Nasional leaders have arrived at Umno’s headquarters at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here for its supreme council meeting.
Although it is uncertain what the meeting is about, it is believed the ongoing political conundrum in Perak is among the top agenda.
The state is experiencing a leadership crisis after Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu was ousted from his political office after losing the confidence vote in the state assembly on Friday.
He has since resigned from his position.
A new menteri besar has yet to be appointed, with Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah unconvinced that anyone holds a simple majority in the state assembly.
The coalition meeting today was understood to have started at 8.30pm and will be chaired by BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Among those seen entering PWTC are Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran.
Others include MCA deputy president Datuk Mah Hang Soon, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah president Tan Sri Joseph Kurup.
It is understood that other top Umno leaders, including BN secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa, had arrived earlier in the evening for a separate coalition meeting. – The Vibes, December 8, 2020
