THE Cabinet has ordered the Home Ministry (KDN) to enhance security, especially for programmes involving Malay Rulers.

Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the move was necessary to ensure that the incident that occurred in Ipoh, Perak, does not repeat itself.

“The Home Ministry has announced that it will follow up with action,” he said at a weekly press conference after the cabinet meeting today.

Last Sunday, a woman caused a stir when she tried to hug the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the state-level National Day celebration parade.

In the incident that occurred while the Perak state anthem was being played, the 41-year-old woman dressed in all black was seen standing behind the royal family before suddenly rushing towards Sultan Nazrin from behind.

The incident occurred at about 8.20am and a check found that the suspect had a past psychiatric treatment record and is currently under specialist supervision.

The suspect was remanded for three days to enable an investigation to be conducted under Section 325/511 of the Penal Code for attempted grievous bodily harm. – September 3, 2025
