‘Time to forge new political landscape through unity’

KUALA LUMPUR – Agreeing that it is high time for new political landscapes to be formed based on unity and shared values, Perak PKR says it is ready to work with any party to forge a new state government.

“The readiness of Perak PKR to work with all parties will speed up the formation of a new state government that would strengthen unity,” Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said in a statement today.

He pointed to a decree by Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, in which His Majesty urged political leaders to come up with the best formula to settle the current political crisis in the state.

“If we all work together, a situation will emerge where our political landscape is based on unity, which is in line with His Majesty’s decree,” Farhash said.

He said leaders should not neglect their responsibilities due to misunderstandings between different political groups.

“What is clear is that we are willing to support a government that prioritises cooperation,” he said.

Earlier today, Farhash and other Pakatan Harapan state leaders – DAP’s Nga Kor Ming and Amanah’s Asmuni Awi – had been granted an audience with Sultan Nazrin, where they briefed him on their own negotiations.

This morning, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had announced that his party’s menteri besar candidate had more than the simple majority needed to form the Perak government.

However, Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria reportedly told Free Malaysia Today that he did not receive the green light from the party’s central leadership to endorse an Umno-led administration.

Meanwhile, Dewan Negara member Datuk Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini confirmed that the ceremony to inaugurate a new menteri besar will be put on hold until the sultan is convinced that an assemblyman commands majority support in the state House.

The Perak government had collapsed on Friday after then menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost a confidence vote with 48 against, 10 in support and one damaged or abstained.

Faizal tendered his resignation to the sultan on Saturday, which automatically dissolved the state executive committee. – The Vibes, December 8, 2020
