THE Indian community in Johor should make its decision in the upcoming state election based on performance and policies rather than political rhetoric, said PKR central leadership council member Dr Gunaraj George.
The Sentosa assemblyman said the community should evaluate the track record of Pakatan Harapan (PH) under Prime Minister and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, particularly its efforts to improve socio-economic opportunities for all Malaysians.
Gunaraj said the MADANI government had opened a “new chapter of confidence” among communities, including Indians, through initiatives aimed at strengthening livelihoods, education, entrepreneurship and social protection.
He urged voters not to be influenced by “old-style politics” that relied on promises and racial sentiments, saying Malaysians should instead focus on policies and tangible outcomes.
“Anwar has consistently advocated breaking down racial barriers that have long shaped the country’s political landscape. Malaysia’s strength lies in unity, fairness and equal opportunities for all citizens,” he said in a statement.
He highlighted several initiatives introduced under the current administration, including increased allocations for the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA), which he said had been raised from RM100 million to RM150 million.
He also pointed to increased funding for Indian entrepreneurs through TEKUN Nasional, support for women entrepreneurs through Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, and additional allocations for Tamil schools.
Gunaraj said the Johor state election was an opportunity for voters to choose a government that could work in tandem with Putrajaya to deliver development, stability and economic growth.
“Today’s voters are more mature and will judge leaders based on who delivers results, who works for the people and who only offers political rhetoric,” he said.
He added that political stability would remain crucial in attracting investments, creating quality jobs and ensuring Johor’s long-term growth.
“PRN Johor is not merely a political contest. It is about deciding the future direction of the state,” he said. – July 8, 2026
