KUALA LUMPUR – More will be summoned for questioning, including a political leader, as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into the Human Resources Ministry continues.

This is part of the agency’s effort to track down a large sum of cash linked to alleged corruption involving the recruitment of migrant workers.

A source was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia that Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar had been called up for questioning again after his statement was taken by MACC last Sunday.

“More ministry officials, contractors, and officers in the agencies under the ministry will be called up for questioning.

“A political party leader who takes care of party finances linked to the minister may also be called. This depends on the investigation.”

Yesterday, it was reported that MACC would be looking into CCTV footage of cars registered under Sivakumar.

The management of a condominium in Cyberjaya has been asked to surrender the footage, according to a report by Malaysiakini.

“MACC has asked for CCTV recordings from March 6 and 7 as well as April 7 and 8 showing three vehicles – a Mercedes Benz, Proton Perdana, and Mitsubishi Outlander,” the source was quoted as saying.

Previously, MACC confirmed that it had visited Sivakumar’s home as part of its investigations.

This came after the DAP minister refuted media reports claiming his house was raided.

It was previously reported that the “raid” was in relation to allegations that Sivakumar had accepted millions of ringgit from an individual in return for guaranteeing a government contract.

Last week, MACC had arrested two of his aides – his special functions officer and private secretary – as well as a migrant worker recruitment agent. The trio have since been released after their remand order ended yesterday.

MACC officers raided the ministry last Thursday, and sources said the commission will be widening its scope of investigation to include senior officials and heads of agencies under the ministry. – The Vibes, April 19, 2023
